VON DER LEYEN’S SNAIL-PACED SUMMIT: EUROPE’S LAUGHABLE LAG IN THE IRAN CRISIS

By Maltese Canadian
Ursula von der Leyen has called a meeting. It is set for Monday, 2 March. The topic? Assessing the situation in Iran. The Supreme Leader is dead. American and Israeli strikes have hit hard. Iran is firing back. The Middle East is on fire. Yet the EU Commission President waits until Monday.
How ridiculous is that? The world moves at lightning speed. Missiles are launched today. Diplomats are rushing right now. But von der Leyen schedules a polite chat after the weekend. Perhaps she needs her Sunday lie-in. Or a long family brunch complete with fenkata. Meanwhile, Tehran is burning. Protests are spreading. Allies are coming under attack. Von der Leyen posts nice words about a “credible transition.” Fine words. But real action? Delayed until Monday.
The criticism is pouring in. Social media is full of mockery. Why not meet during the weekend? Or as soon as the attacks began. Von der Leyen’s slowness stands out like a beacon. It shows the whole European habit, so evident in Malta, of moving at a snail’s pace. Decisions crawl through committees. Crises race ahead. No wonder people are laughing at her. It is like watching a tortoise try to catch a rocket.
Now look at Donald Trump. He is back in the White House. His decisions make headlines overnight. America acts fast and hard. Strikes on Iran? Already done. No years of talks. Trump has made the entire European edifice look irrelevant. The big global issues — Iran, Ukraine, China — are being handled by Washington. EU leaders? They call summits. They issue statements. They wait for the next meeting. Trump has turned them into spectators. Europe sits on the bench while the real game plays out.
The worst enemies of modern Europe, though, are not outside. They are the liberals inside. Their policies are tearing the continent apart. Open borders create chaos and strain public services. Green deals drive up energy bills and push factories abroad. Woke rules distract from real defence needs. Liberals push endless multiculturalism without proper integration. That erodes shared identity and fuels tension. They put the lid on military budgets while preaching endless dialogue over strength. The result? Europe is weak and hesitant. Putin smiles. Iran shrugs. Terror threats grow while liberals worry more about offending someone than protecting citizens.
They dream of a perfect, borderless, carbon-neutral utopia. Reality keeps biting back. They fight climate change. Good. But they neglect borders and security. They celebrate diversity. Fine. But they forget that integration matters. In the Iran crisis they hesitate, afraid of saying the wrong thing. Trump charges forward. Europe dithers.
It is time Europe woke up. Drop the endless delays. Face hard facts. The liberals inside are doing more damage than any foreign enemy. Von der Leyen’s Monday meeting? A bad joke. The world will not wait for Brussels to finish its pastizzi and coffee.
