TESLA FACES MEDIA ONSLAUGHT AMID ELON MUSK’S POLITICAL STANCE

by Political Correspondent
Tesla, the electric vehicle titan, is under siege from a barrage of negative media coverage worldwide, triggered by CEO Elon Musk’s vocal support for Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy. Since Musk’s endorsement in July 2024, backed by an estimated $250-$300 million, liberal-leaning outlets have churned out stories portraying Tesla as failing its customers. The stories are a vindictive campaign to punish the company for Musk’s right-wing activism, aiming to cripple the company’s reputation.
The reports often lack specifics, omitting names of affected dealerships or customers. They are arbitrary. The liberal media’s approach is retribution, not journalism. It’s about settling political scores. Musk’s alignment with Trump has alienated Tesla’s eco-conscious liberal base. This backlash coincides with a 45% drop in European sales in January 2025 and a 40% stock price decline this year. Yet, the media’s focus on Tesla’s woes often ignores broader challenges, like competition from Chinese and European automakers, which have cut Tesla’s market share below 50% in new EV sales.
Critics of the media campaign see a decay in journalistic integrity. The stories lack transparency. It’s Fascism 2025, crushing dissenters under moral pretences. Liberal outlets are weaponising vague narratives to stoke outrage.
Tesla initially hoped the storm would subside, with Musk recently distancing himself from politics to focus on business. Now, Elon Musk has even left DOGE.
However, the onslaught persists. Tesla should opt for a legal counteroffensive. It could pursue several legal avenues (e.g., defamation laws, malicious falsehood, trade libel, and consumer protection laws) to combat malicious critics.
Online commentary has also grown increasingly hostile, with some posts accusing “keyboard warriors” of promoting extreme ideologies and even encouraging violence against those with differing views.
Detractors ignore Musk’s broader contributions, from aiding stranded astronauts and expanding global internet access via Starlink, to transforming space travel and reducing government waste such as USAid’s funding of abortion and gay rights activism in Malta, including lawsuits against this blog.
Whether Musk’s recent decision to retreat from the political spotlight will quell the backlash remains to be seen. For now, Tesla continues to be at the centre of a cultural and political clash, with its reputation, and the wider principles of free expression in the West, hanging in the balance.
