EUROPEAN HYPOCRISY: WHEN FREE SPEECH IS REDEFINED AS HATE

In a bold statement from the floor of the European Parliament, Patryk Jaki—Vice-President of Poland’s Law and Justice (PiS) Party and leader of the European Conservatives—sounded the alarm on what he sees as a dangerous erosion of fundamental freedoms in the EU. “For them, hate speech is when you show real violence from migration, defend life, or oppose abortion,” Jaki declared. “If you’re against LGBT or gender ideology, that also falls under hate speech laws.”
Jaki’s remarks speak to a broader issue facing many Europeans who dare to challenge the dominant liberal narrative on issues like migration, abortion, and gender identity. Increasingly, traditional views are not just marginalised—they’re being criminalised.
I know this firsthand. I have been a victim of this system.
Silvan Agius, an EU bureaucrat, sued me simply because I published an article questioning these laws. Yes, I was sued for exercising what should be protected free speech. What’s worse, the lawyers defending Agius are backed by the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation- an organisation that receives funding from the European Union itself. So, let us be clear: EU taxpayers are financing the silencing of dissent.
We are witnessing the institutionalisation of ideology at the expense of free expression. Laws that were supposedly created to combat genuine hate are now being used as tools of censorship and repression.
When defending the unborn is called hate…
When opposing gender indoctrination is labelled as bigotry…
When showing the dark consequences of mass, unregulated migration is deemed racist…
…then the term “hate speech” has lost all meaning and become a weapon of political convenience.
Jaki is right. It is time for Europe to reassert its commitment to free speech, pluralism, and the protection of diverse opinions – even when they go against the grain of Brussels orthodoxy. Otherwise, we are no longer talking about a union of democracies but a bloc enforcing ideological conformity.

Calls for abortion should be included as hate speech in Malta. If homoperversion is worth protecting, human life is worth protecting even more.
