Our Prime Minister does not use his Land Rover for his promotional video regarding the European elections. 

Prime Minister Robert Abela made a promotional video for the forthcoming European elections. The Prime Minster is seen arriving at a gym and then doing workouts.

The concept of the image of the prime minister in action and in the gym was first used as part of political propaganda in the United States by President Harry A. Truman after the war when he succeeded Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt has been long in power and, towards the end, he appeared a sick and tired man. Harry S. Truman wanted to convey a new message and began ensuring he was filmed in action, running and doing physical exercises. 

In Malta, we had Dom Mintoff, who liked to show himself in action by running up the steps of Castile, doing horse riding and swimming. I believe the first Prime Minister ever filmed in a gym for political propaganda was Joseph Muscat, when he was still leader of the opposition leader. Now, we have Robert Abela, who posted a video during an electoral campaign doing workouts in the gym.

Nevertheless, this video lacked something. The Prime Minister did not drive to the gym in his top-of-the-range Land Rover. Instead, he is seen coming out of a more humble utility car. Possibly, he did not want to make the same mistake committed recently by Joseph Muscat, who arrived in his Maserati at the recording studios of F-Living, when many workers, who hardly can make ends meet, frown at such a luxury car.
