I thank Lovin Malta for covering my bid to be a candidate for the EU Elections

I thank Tim Diacono for covering my bid to be a candidate for the next EU election. However, I wish to correct Diacono on a tiny fact that he wrote in his blog. He said that I have demanded the university to take action against Matthew Caruana Galia for calling me a “single-celled organism”. I never asked the university to take action on what he said about me but on what he said about the rector. What Matthew Caruana Galizia said about the rector was libellous, but this is a family that can get away with murder. This is what Tim Diacono wrote in his article:

History lecturer and blogger Simon Mercieca has announced that he will contest the upcoming MEP election.

His nomination was signed by John Dalli, a former PN minister who spent two years as European Commissioner for Health before being forced to resign in 2012 in the wake of the snus scandal.

Mercieca will be contesting as part of a group of independents, along with Alexander D’Agata and Radu Gheorghi.

“If other prospective MEP candidates want to join this pool of mutual support, we will welcome you on board. There is victory in unity,” he wrote.

A history lecturer, Mercieca has in recent years used this blog to try and pitch himself as an “anti-woke” campaigner. However, he has himself taken great offence at comments passed against him. In 2020, he demanded the University of Malta take action against Matthew Caruana Galizia for calling him a “single-celled organism”, accusing him of “racism” and “fascism”.
