Exclusive: Peter Caruana Galizia exchanged emails with his lover in 2015; the same year of the first planned attempt on Daphne’s life.
After the publication of my article about the double life of Peter Caruana Galizia and his queer message to his lover, questions were asked by readers of my blogs how is it possible that her husband could have ordered the plantation of a bomb on the same day he was caught red-handed by his wife leading an adulterous life. I repeat that this was not the aim of those articles and I never stated that the bomb was planted by her husband. I am here only to present facts. I will leave the rest to the police. What is certain is that the Caruana Galizia family built a false narrative of what happened at their home on the 15 and 16 October 2017. It is only for this reason, that I am writing these blogs because the general public needs to know all the facts.
The fact remains that the name of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s husband in connection with this murder was first mentioned by Europol. After starting investigating this murder, Europol came to the conclusion that the prime suspects were Keith Schembri and Peter Caruana Galizia. Till today, no one has contradicted this statement or said that what I am stating about Europol is wrong.
Then, there are other factors and facts that led the Europol to consider Peter Caruana Galizia as prime suspect. In this blog, I will delve into it. In my previous blog, I showed how Matthew Caruana Galizia gave different versions of why he had left the car outside on Sunday. It is a fact that it was only on the day that Daphne Caruana Galizia learned about her husband’s double life that her son Matthew left her car out. This allowed Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murderers to plant the bomb. Two of the versions Matthew Caruana Galizia gave to explain why he left the car out, do not tally with the version given about the car by the Degiorgio brothers and Vince Muscat.
Another essential detail comes from the emails that Daphne Caruana Galizia received about her husband’s infidelity. Peter Caruana Galizia had been sending emails with kisses to his lover since 2015. In fact, Daphne Caruana Galizia received copies of emails that Peter Caruana Galizia had sent to his lover in 2015. She also received emails from Peter Caruana Galizia to his lover for 2017 but no emails for 2016! Therefore, the years during which Peter was sending emails to his lover coincided with the years during which there were attempts on Daphne Caruana Galizia’s life. After she was murdered in 2017, it was revealed that the first attempt on her life was in 2015, but this plan was aborted. Is it a coincidence that in the dossier Daphne received of emails between her husband and his lover, there were no emails for the year 2016? The emails that Daphne received about her husband and his lover had one aspect in common. In other words, these emails all had kisses in them. Daphne’s husband sent emails with kisses to his lover in 2015 and started again sending emails with kisses to his lover in 2017. If there were emails of this kind for 2016, I am sure that these would have been included in the dossier sent to Daphne. Therefore, these emails received by Daphne coincide with the first attempt on her life which was aborted. The second batch of emails with kisses coincided with the plan and her assassination. These are facts, not fiction!
Does this mean that Peter Caruana Galizia was planning to kill her or is involved in her murder? I am not stating that. This is not for me to decide. I am not an investigative officer. As said above, as a historian, I only present facts. I leave the investigation to the experts, but the public has a right to know all the facts.
Therefore, the public is not only confronted with the fact that the main witness of the police, Melvin Thuema, has been caught lying under oath. Matthew Caruana Galizia and his father’s testimony in court leaves much to be desired. As a lawyer, Peter Caruana Galizia should know better.
Remember also that under oath, Matthew Caruana Galizia referred to emails that he said to have gotten from his mother’s laptop about the presumed ElectroGas scandal, which according to Matthew Caruana Galizia and the three judges, was the reason for Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder. Thus, the natural question to be asked is why Matthew Caruana Galizia, who had all the emails of his mother, did not also give the computer and its material to the judges or the police if the family is truly interested in justice for Daphne?
Interesting read…..unless denied by credible sources, we have to take it that those presented here are facts.
I had initially thought that the domestic spat where daphne allegedly threw plates at her husband was due daphne’s evident anger problem, as exposed in her incessant writings, day in day out.
But this makes more sense….

As much as I wholly agree with your comment re: using this murder to satisfy their agenda against the Labour Government, it wasn’t the murder that brought down the 2013-18 Government but the Egrant story. Daphne was murdered after the 2017 General Election

Just because the husband was having an affair with another woman doesn’t make him a prime suspect for her murder and all Mercieca’s comments are purely speculation to his interpretation of the sequence of the events leading up to her assassination!
By his own admission, he’s not a qualified criminal investigator, just a historian and the facts that he has mentioned are at best are his interpretation circumstantial evidence, which obviously was looked at by Europol but they took no further action. As usual in a murder investigation, especially in a assassination the immediate family are looked at for any motives etc and then for any other suspects who might have reasons to murder her!
As for his comment concerning the elusive laptop, that was handed over to the German Federal Police for examination, the reasons given was the lack of trust concerning the Maltese judiciary and police which is riddled with political interference as stated by the Vienna Commission Report, also verified by the suspension of a senior police officer for divulging confidential information concerning this investigation!
When you take into account the time frame involved in this case, the appalling lack of professionalism that the Maltese police displayed in this investigation which only managed to present circumstantial evidence to the court and only then achieved a conviction after nearly 5 years of wrangling by the confessions of the accused, had they not admitted their guilt I’m pretty confident that it still would be unresolved and not forgetting that the person or persons who paid for this assassination still remains allusive from justice !
I personally don’t understand why a historian would want to be involved in this murder and making wild accusations other than the usual Maltese political spats between the 2 main parties and the usual point scoring that this country has become famous for!
