Cigarettes Are Expensive in Malta – But Many Countries Pay Far More

Smokers in Malta often complain about the rising cost of cigarettes. With an average price of US$6.95 (€6 approximately) for a pack of 20 Marlboro cigarettes, tobacco is certainly no longer a cheap habit.
However, international data from Numbeo shows that Malta remains well below many other developed countries in terms of cigarette prices.
According to the latest figures, Australia has by far the most expensive cigarettes in the world, with a pack costing an average of US$35.64, followed by New Zealand (US$24.45), the United Kingdom (US$23.80), and Ireland (US$20.86). Several other European countries, including France, the Netherlands, Finland, and Belgium, also record significantly higher prices than Malta.
Malta is ranked 26th in the list, sharing the same average price as Italy and Estonia. It is also slightly more expensive than neighbouring Spain (US$6.75) and Portugal (US$6.49).
