The Great Reset: when are the Maltese politicians and Health Authorities going to start using it?

Blog post by Marica Micallef

The Great Reset was the name and theme of the 50th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, held in June 2020 in Davos, Switzerland. It brought together high-profile business and political leaders, convened by Prince Charles and the WEF, with the theme of rebuilding society and the economy in a sustainable way following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Is it a coincidence that a book entitled “The Great Reset” was published in June 2020? The book was written by Klaus Schwab, founder and CEO of the same forum. People might see nothing wrong with this book. In this book the author shows concern towards the world, humanity and that political leaders give their input as to how to help restart the economy in the post-pandemic period. Yet, I smell something fishy.

Klaus Schwab described three core components of the Great Reset: (1) creating conditions for a “stakeholder economy”; (2) building in a more “resilient, equitable, and sustainable” and (3)  “harness the innovations of the Fourth Industrial Revolution” for the public good.  Mmmmm…are they hinting that we are moving towards another industrial revolution? Will this revolution work in favour or against humanity?

The Great Reset will also be the main theme of the WEF’s summit in Lucerne this month (May 2021). Is this why we are hearing leaders, like Boris Johnson, talking about this “reset”? In Malta, so far, our leaders and health authorities have never mentioned this. On the contrary, they talk with positivity about restarting the economy and going back to normal.

In this summit in Lucerne, will they discuss how they will help the world? What is truly brewing in these meetings?

Another post-COVID concern raised by the WEF is food security including the “risk of disruptions to food supply chains”, and the need for “global policy coordination” to prevent “food protectionism from becoming the post-pandemic new normal.”   Is this a hint that there will be a disruption in food supply chains, as I have already hinted in other blogs?

According to Klaus Schwab, they would not change the economic system, but rather improve it to what he considers to be “responsible capitalism”. Really? Does he think that we are all going to buy this lie? Isn’t the economic system changing?

Is it a co-incidence that at the start of the pandemic, the great reset was already being discussed? Is it a co-incidence that this book was published amidst a pandemic, where the health of nations should be the main worry?  Shouldn’t these meetings and theme discussed raise our eyebrows?
