Cargo Tragedy at Hong Kong International: Flight EK9788 Veers Off Runway

A serious accident occurred at Hong Kong International Airport when Flight EK9788, a cargo service operated by AirACT Cargo on behalf of Emirates SkyCargo, veered off the runway after landing early this morning.

A Boeing 747-481SF (registration TC-ACF) reportedly lost directional control upon landing, skidding off the paved surface and colliding with a ground service vehicle positioned near the taxiway. The impact dragged the car into nearby water.

Emergency services responded swiftly, extinguishing minor fires and rescuing the aircraft’s crew of four, all of whom survived without significant injuries. Tragically, two ground workers in the vehicle were killed in the collision.

The freighter had departed Dubai World Central (DWC) as a scheduled cargo flight bound for Hong Kong (HKG). Initial reports suggest the incident occurred amid wet runway conditions, though the exact cause remains under investigation.

Authorities at Hong Kong International have temporarily closed one runway as the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) and Airport Authority Hong Kong begin a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

TC-ACF, a 747-400 converted freighter, first entered service in the 1990s and has been operated by AirACT (MyCargo Airlines) of Turkey since 2017. The incident marks one of the most serious cargo aircraft accidents at Hong Kong International in recent years.
