The harming political rhetoric of Manfred Weber
A few days back, Manfred Weber wrote an article in the French digital portal L’Opinion. In this article, Weber lashes out once again against Malta for the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. He states that Daphne’s murder did not take place in China, Russia or in Turkey but in a EU country. As though similar murders did not take place in countries members of the EU. After all, we have to be fair if we are truly a Union.
Weber states that Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed because of what she was writing about corruption, corrupt politicians and organized crime. Weber should know better what is going around, even in his home country and neighbouring countries, where corruption and dishonesty are regularly in the news but the European Parliament selectively choses to pick on the smallest country in the union, to avoid discussing their own can of worms.
After Vince Muscat il-Koħħu’s testimony in the Maltese courts, Manfred Weber became part of a group of MEPS who wants to discuss these “new” disclosures in the European Parliament. Muscat made an important revelation. He stated that Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed because she was going to write something about someone but he did not disclose who. Perhaps, he does not know the name. Therefore, from Koħħu’s testimony, the motive behind this murder is this piece of information that Daphne was going to write about this unknown person. This is a clear indication that this unknown person cannot be Yorgen Fenech because Muscat would have named him.
However, we know from where to get information about what Daphne Caruana Galizia’s was going to write. This is her famous laptop. Weber should be reminded that the family did not hand this laptop to the Maltese authorities. Instead, they chose to send it to the German police. Therefore, the obvious question that should be asked, even by Weber, is why are the contents of her laptop being kept under wraps. What is there to hide?
After all, the disclosures of this laptop’s contents would solve a lot of the outstanding issues and give a more honest and clear answer to a number of questions that have been raised by Weber himself in this article. As Weber should know that no material from this computer has been rendered public in court. I am positive that Daphne Caruana Galizia’s laptop has much to reveal. It should be in everybody’s interest that this is brought to the fore. With Daphne’s fighting spirit, she would have wanted to be disclosed. If this happens, all the speculation would come to an end.
At this point, if Weber is so keen and so clear in his mind on what he wishes to achieve, i.e., the WHOLE truth behind Daphne’s assassination, he should insist that the first thing that needs to be done is to ask why are Daphne’s Laptop contents still kept under wraps. It is just plain common sense.
