What are Randolph De Battista’s thoughts on the caricature of Cyrus Engerer that appeared in the Illum?

During this last week, Cyrus Engerer was in the news, telling us that Robert Abela was chasing him to contest the forthcoming MEP elections again. Cyrus Engerer probably realized that he did not stand a chance this time. This led to his decision not to contest.

Cyrus Engerer posted the following message:

“I thank the leader of the Labour Party who yesterday was encouraging me to re-candidate himself for the forthcoming MEP elections. I also thank two European parties who have asked to sign up on their list. I have decided to step back from the voting arena. I am and remain an activist for what is right”.

On the other hand, Cyrus Engerer said that Malta needs a change in her politics. This has led to speculation that Engerer will join a new formation, which seems to be in the pipeline. This topic is the subject of a caricature that appeared in the Sunday newspaper Illum.

In this caricature, Cyrus Engerer is mentioned as being interested in the post currently held by Marlene Bonnici. This site revealed that Cyrus Engerer, of his own accord, had asked the Prime Minister to give him her post. Engerer did not get it. This probably explains why there is turmoil in the party. It seems that the Prime Minister wished to give it to somebody else. His chief of staff, Glenn Micallef, was also mentioned. Now, it is clear that Marlene Bonnici will keep her post.

Yet, while Malta Today insults me by saying that I am talking nonsense, at the same time, her media confirms the news I publish, including that Cyrus Engerer was interested in Marlene Bonnici’s post in Brussels.

However, Engerer’s posts continue to embarrass De Battista since Engerer is his partner. Randolph De Battista is the CEO of the Labour Party and entered parliament on the express order of Robert Abela. De Battista did not contest elections. He did not knock on doors. His partner, Cyrus Engerer, has become a severe liability to the Prime Minister.

This is Randolph De Battista’s message to Cyrus Engerer, his beloved.

“I can say that this was a difficult decision, the most difficult one in your life. You have left what you have always studied to achieve; you worked for it, and you loved and worked with utmost rectitude and professionalism. What you have written shows some of what you have achieved and highlights the loyalty and correctness you maintained up to the end. On to the next Cy, I love you”.

In this context, I wish to ask Randolph De Battista whether he believes that the caricature in the Illum is homophobic or not because it alludes to sexual relations between men. The Maltese expression ‘musmar f’sorm il Leyber‘ alludes to homosexuality. The word ‘musmar’ (posture) is being used as a euphemism for the word ‘żobb’ (penis).

I am asking these questions because Randolph De Battista enjoys attacking those who criticize him by calling them homophobic. It follows that one finds out whether Randolph De Battista feels that the caricature is homophobic or not.

  1. How cringing – one politician saying that he loves another publicly on facebook and not realising how unserious such comments are.

  2. Jien nahseb li l-ebda ragel ma joqghod hdejn sorm Marlene Bonnici bil-hegga u l-professjonalita’ li ghandha lejn ix-xoghol, ikolli nghid li hi ukoll hanzira ghax xoghol aktar milli kien RCC. Meta warbet ftit min gie flokha ghamel stragi.

  3. L-espressjoni “musmar f’sormomok” tinghad meta wiehed ikun tip ta’ “antagonist” u mhux kif qieghed jigi interpretat f’dan l-artiklu.

L-awtur kien car bizzejjed fejn semma l-attivita’ l-gdida li ser ikun parti minnha Cyrus.

Ma nafx kif certa nies ma jqisux icallsu certa hsibijiet personali bla sens fuq il-“mass media”
