New York Woman Stranded in Pakistan After Failed Online Romance: Her Viral Demands, Press Conferences, and Online Fame Captivated Audiences Worldwide

In October 2024, 33-year-old New Yorker Onijah Andrew Robinson travelled to Karachi, Pakistan, to marry 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon, whom she had met online. Upon her arrival, Memon informed Robinson that his family would disapprove of their union, leaving her stranded in Karachi as her tourist visa expired.

Refusing to return to the United States, Robinson camped outside Memon’s now-vacant family home and began making public demands. She held press conferences where she requested $100,000 from the Pakistani government, stating, “I’m asking for 100K or more. I need 20K by this week, in my pockets, in cash. That’s a demand to the government.”

Robinson’s actions quickly gained attention on social media, turning her into an internet sensation. Her statements and behaviour became viral memes, and she even secured low-budget brand deals. Locals showed support, and she was often seen flanked by security guards or interacting with admirers.

A man identifying himself as her son, Jeremiah Robinson, informed Pakistani media that his mother has bipolar disorder and that no marriage had taken place between her and Memon. He emphasised efforts to bring her back to the U.S.

After several months, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori intervened, assisting Robinson in extending her expired visa and arranging her return to the United States. As of early February 2025, Robinson is reportedly returning home.
