Malta Buys a Military Aircraft from Trump’s America

The Armed Forces of Malta has signed a contract to acquire a new US-built maritime patrol aircraft. This aircraft will be used for maritime surveillance, border control, and search-and-rescue missions over the central Mediterranean.

The plane is based on a Beechcraft King Air airframe manufactured in Wichita, Kansas, USA, and will be modified for military patrol use before delivery.

The US Embassy in Malta described the deal as part of ongoing practical cooperation between Malta and the United States to strengthen regional security.

While this isn’t a purchase of a combat fighter jet, it does mark a direct military procurement from the United States, reflecting continued defence and security cooperation between Valletta and Washington.

The acquisition enhances Malta’s operational capabilities at sea—important for search and rescue and border patrol around its vast Search and Rescue (SAR) Zone.

It fits into broader patterns of European reliance on US military hardware and cooperation, highlighted in other recent analyses of Europe’s defence ties with America.
