Malta Tops EU Rankings in Positive Views of Membership

Malta stands out as the most pro-European Union country in the bloc, with 92% of its citizens saying their nation has benefited from EU membership — the highest percentage recorded across all 27 member states.
The latest Eurobarometer survey reveals that, despite varying enthusiasm throughout Europe, most Europeans view EU membership as advantageous. Malta, Denmark, Ireland, and Portugal also report exceptionally high approval rates, at 91%.

At the other end of the spectrum, Bulgaria registers the lowest level of perceived benefit at 61%, while France, Czechia, Greece, and Austria each stand at 65%.
Malta’s overwhelming support reflects the island’s economic growth, social development, and strong engagement within the EU framework since joining in 2004. For many Maltese, EU membership is associated with prosperity, opportunity, and greater international visibility.
Across Europe, the overall sentiment remains positive, confirming that, despite national differences, citizens broadly believe their countries continue to gain from being part of the European project.
