Il Tempo Editor Accuses Roberta Metsola of Blocking Minute of Silence for Charlie Kirk
The editor of Il Tempo has accused Roberta Metsola of denying a one-minute silence in memory of Charlie Kirk. According to the editor, democratic Europe does not exist anymore following the European Parliament’s refusal to honour Kirk’s assassination with such a gesture. In a widely circulated video, the editor directly attributes responsibility to Metsola, portraying her as the central figure behind the rejection. He argues that Metsola and her circle have dealt a severe blow to European democracy through this action.
The editor stresses that one may agree or disagree with Kirk, yet he was assassinated for expressing his ideas. He did not use his words to incite violence or deliberately cause harm. Nor did he address his adversaries in despicable words.
Nevertheless, Metsola deemed it inappropriate to observe a one-minute silence in Parliament. This, the editor of Il Tempo argues, exposes the hypocrisy of Europe. While honouring specific causes, including support for Hamas and what he frames as a drive to “Islamise” Europe, it refuses to uphold basic democratic principles when they concern dissenting voices.
The irony is that Maltese newspapers sympathetic to Metsola avoid assigning her direct responsibility, reporting merely that the European Parliament refused the request for silence.

She has shown her true colours. A true hypocrite. Sad day for European democracy.
