What if the Ottomans had WON The Great Siege of Malta? No Battle of Lepanto or New Holy League

The Great Siege of Malta was one of the fiercest battles of the 16th century — a clash of empires, faiths, and ideals. The Ottomans vastly outnumbered the Knights Hospitaller, who had made Malta their stronghold for just 35 years. Against the odds, the Knights held out. But what if they hadn’t?

Would there have been the Battle of Lepanto, or would a new Holy League have been formed? How different would Europe and the Mediterranean world look today?

In this episode of History Undone, James Hanson is joined by Rear Admiral Dr Chris Parry and Professor Marcus Bull to unravel one of history’s most mythologised turning points — and to ask what might have followed if the Ottoman Empire had claimed victory in Malta.
