A New Publication on Malta’s History during the Arab-Muslim Period

My forthcoming publication, produced in collaboration with Frans X. Cassar, sheds new light on Malta’s history during the Arab period. Cassar has done an outstanding job translating a book by Muhammad Mustapha Bazama into English, initially published in Libya in 1971. Although this work was published fifty-four years ago, its contents remain highly relevant. It offers a distinct Arabic and Muslim perspective on this historical period, much of which still resonates today. Notably, Bazama’s work includes a reference in Medieval Arabic that remains largely unknown, particularly within local academic circles. Given the scarcity of Arabic sources that mention Malta, the discovery and dissemination of such material is of significant value to Maltese historical scholarship.
