Where is Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès? New Clues Point to Malta

Fourteen years after the brutal murders of his wife and four children in Nantes, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès remains one of Europe’s most wanted fugitives. He has never been found despite a massive international search and countless reported sightings. His story briefly captured the attention of local outlets such as The Times of Malta and Malta Today when the tragedy first broke out in 2011. However, coverage stopped there.

The case has taken a surprising turn, with fresh evidence suggesting a potential link to Malta — a development widely reported in France.

The latest twist comes from French blogger and influencer Aqababe, known for breaking major stories in the entertainment world. Recently, he turned his attention to the Dupont de Ligonnès case, launching a grassroots investigation with the help of his vast online following. On April 18, he invited the public to submit any information via a dedicated email address. The response was overwhelming: over 100,000 emails were received in just one week.

Among the key revelations shared on his Instagram channel “Retrouvons XDDL” (“Let’s Find XDDL”) was the detection of a Maltese IP address that had pinged twice—once in central Malta and once on Gozo Island. Aqababe also reported that the device in question was running on an Android operating system and had last connected from Gozo approximately two years ago. In addition, French authorities have now authorised using a new portrait robot (identikit) to aid the search.

This lead would confirm long-standing rumours that Dupont de Ligonnès may have sought refuge in Malta, using the islands’ small size, international population, and transient lifestyle to stay hidden.
