The Director General of WHO is now saying that his organisation did not impose lockdowns

In the video below, one can hearTedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), saying that his organisation did not impose lockdowns, mask mandates or vaccine mandates. To be fair to him, he Is technically correct in stating that the WHO did not impose lockdowns, mask mandates, or vaccine mandates. The WHO has no legal authority to enforce policies on sovereign nations. Instead, it issues recommendations and guidelines that individual governments choose to adopt, modify, or ignore based on their own legal and political systems.

However, the WHO’s influence is undeniable. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many governments based their public health decisions on WHO guidance. For example, when the WHO recommended lockdowns, masking, or vaccinations, many countries, including Malta, implemented these measures. In our case, they were made mandatory. While the WHO did not have direct enforcement power, its guidance shaped global policy and had a de facto impact on government actions.

However, Tedros is being misleading. He is making such a statement to desperately save his organisation after Trump’s election, which is sending shockwaves through various world institutions because they were used not for the benefit of humanity but to impose a political agenda. If what he is saying is taken literally, he is correct that the WHO does not have the power to enforce policies. However, if the question is whether the WHO played a significant role in shaping government decisions that led to mandates, then the answer is yes. Now, the WHO should carry the burden of its decisions.

  1. In Malta we never had lockdowns. What we had is shutdown. Lockdown means to lock someone inside a building or confined area. Shutdown means to lock someone out of a building. For example we had schools shutdown, which means students could not enter inside school buildings.

The only exception was in case of elderly homes.
