School shooting in Sweden: around 10 dead, including the attacker

In a tragic incident in central Sweden, a mass shooting occurred at a local school, resulting in multiple fatalities. The assailant reportedly used a fully automatic firearm during the attack.

According to the head of the police district, a shooting at Campus Risbergska in Örebro has left “around ten people dead.”

He added that police are working to identify the victims and will not yet release details about them or the number of injured.

However, the police chief of Örebro confirmed that the suspected perpetrator was among the dead and that he had no prior criminal record or police history. He had been identified as Bjorn Andersson. In one of the phones, he is shown holding a rifle.

Sweden has stringent gun control laws, making the possession of fully automatic weapons illegal for civilians. Such firearms are typically restricted to military and law enforcement agencies. The acquisition of a fully automatic weapon by a civilian often involves unlawful means, such as smuggling or purchasing through black markets.

In recent years, Sweden has faced challenges with illegal firearms entering the country, often linked to organised crime networks. These weapons are frequently smuggled from regions with less stringent controls or from post-conflict areas where arms are more accessible.

Authorities are currently investigating the source of the firearm used in this tragic event. Determining how the shooter obtained the weapon is crucial for understanding the circumstances leading up to the attack and for preventing similar incidents in the future.

As the investigation is ongoing, more detailed information will likely emerge, shedding light on the origins of the firearm and the broader context of this devastating event.
