Mayor Karen Bass, Harris Ally, Under Fire for Crisis Management
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is facing significant criticism following her absence during the recent devastating wildfires in the city. While attending the inauguration of Ghana’s president, wildfires ravaged Los Angeles, leading to evacuations and property loss. Critics argue that her absence during this crisis reflects a lack of leadership.

Adding to the controversy, Mayor Bass had previously approved a $17.6 million reduction in the Los Angeles Fire Department’s budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. This decision has been scrutinised in light of the recent wildfires, with concerns that the budget cuts may have hindered the city’s ability to respond to such emergencies effectively.
Upon her return, Mayor Bass faced questions regarding her absence and the budget cuts but has yet to provide detailed responses. The situation has sparked a broader debate about the city’s preparedness for natural disasters and resource prioritisation.

The wildfires have had a devastating impact, with reports indicating that at least five people have died and over 1,000 buildings have been destroyed. The most significant fires include those in Pacific Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst.
The situation remains dynamic, and further developments are anticipated as the city addresses the aftermath of the wildfires and evaluates its emergency response strategies.
In the meantime, Elon Musk weighed in on the situation, criticizing Mayor Bass and accusing her of being “utterly incompetent.” He went so far as to suggest she reconsider her position as the mayor of Los Angeles.
“Madam Mayor, have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today who are dealing with this disaster? No apology for them? Do you think you should have been visiting Ghana while this was unfolding back home?” Musk questioned.
Mayor Bass, an ardent supporter of Kamala Harris, is widely regarded as one of the “woke” mayors in America.
