Malta’s downfall started with our accession to the EU: now she needs politicians like Norman Lowell or Emmy Bezzina to save her

From a blog reader 2.

The blog reader incorrectly compares Malta with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Blog Reader did not explain why the UAE imports workers. The reasons why Malta and UAE import workers are different. Let us have a look at the UAE first.

Did this country have metal workers not just to build a gate for the pens where they kept their animals? Or did this country have carpenters not just to make the odd table or wardrobe? Or did this country have electricians and plumbers not just to install an electric switch or a water hose? What about the builders? Were they needed just for some sand hut?

On the contrary, in Malta, we have excellent metal workers. Just look at stairways/banisters and iron/aluminum gates and windows. We have excellent carpenters; look at your parent’s hand-made furniture. We have excellent plumbers and electricians. One electrician can finish a block of flats by himself, including plumbing. We have excellent builders. Just look at townhouses and palaces that were built in the past. Not to mention plasterers, painters, and tile setters.

Middle Eastern countries were happy living the way they were. But they wanted to modernize big time like Dubai did. They have the money (from oil) but do not have the workforce capacity to implement their dream. So, these countries started to import workers that they did not have.

Back to Malta. I already mentioned what Malta has. But to repeat, we have all the workers needed, from builders to technicians to engineers. We have excellent doctors/consultants. The Maltese are NOT lazy, and the Maltese WANT to work (contrary to what the lying and dishonest politicians say). Many men have two jobs.

We had enough workers for the needs of a population of around 400k, but the governments wanted to make Malta like a second Singapore. So, we started the building boom. We began to accept both EU and non-EU citizens. When a population grows, it necessitates importing foreign workers.

Therefore, Malta’s downfall started with our accession to the EU. We were forced to take in EU and non-EU citizens even though we already had a population of around 400k. EU countries were envious of Malta’s successes. We had a population of 98% Maltese and 2% British subjects in 2002. In the process and preparation to join this union, we dismantled and destroyed our trade schools.

Today, Malta’s population is approaching 800k and those Maltese with a knowledgable trade are on the decline. Now, it is getting scary. And here is why. A country is manageable at 6% foreigners of its total population; at 10%, it is almost irreversible unless the government goes hard on the situation. And at 12%, the country is at its limits. At this point, it is virtually impossible to reverse back. What is scary is the fact that Malta is at this latter stage. This means that Malta will be taken over. We are now risking losing our country permanently. We are now risking being forced out of our own land. This has already happened to those people whose countries have passed through similar processes, such as the Palestinians, the Bandas in Indonesia, and the different ethnic groups in various South American countries.

It saddens me to say this, but we are now in a hopeless situation. The politicians who did this should go on trial in a special court of law for treason against their people.

Open your eyes, people of Malta. For the love of Malta, open your eyes. Can’t you all see that our country is being mangled and destroyed? Can Malta be saved? I doubt it, as Malta has reached and passed the 12% limit. Maybe if Malta finds a new Saviour, there is some hope. Malta needs politicians such as Norman Lowell or Emmy Bezzina. These are individuals who can save the country. But I doubt if they are given a chance.

  1. ”Malta needs politicans such as Norman Lowell or Emmy Bezzina” !!!. This site is being turned into a true trash bin.

    1. This site is turning to be one of the best Malta can offer. So what’s your beef?
Maybe you don’t like the truth that’s being published here.
What about mr. Lowell or mr. Bezzina or mr. Salomone? These are real politicians (bezzina is not a politician but could be) with integrity and principles. These men of integrity are the hope that is needed to save this country.
Our politicians in parliament grow beards and moustaches to look old, mature and distinctive. Wont help…..these kids are a bunch of corrupt liars that are destroying Malta.
Please suggest how Malta can be saved.

  2. Lowell was always in favour of the EU – and never hid the fact. His whole idea of the ‘Imperium’ involves taking over the EU!

The sad reality is that there is no one of substance who can save this island and that the population in its majority doesn’t want to be saved either – they are happy living as a colonised people once again.

  3. What you say is not borne out by the facts and the data, at all.

NOT obliged to let in NON-EU workers

We are NOT obliged to take in NON-EU workers. Those are imported directly by the Government of Malta with Minister Byron Camilleri’s signature. In fact, a data return has to be sent to Eurostat, as non-EU citizens have NO right to be allowed into the EU.

This is the data: 37,851 residency permits to NON-EU in 1 year

Eurostat has recently published data the Malta Government kept hidden, that just last year, during 2022, the Government of Malta imported no less than 37,851 NON-EU citizens, mostly from India, Pakistan, the Philippines and Nepal, countries that have certainly NOT joined the EU!

This is other data: 422K to 542K population and accelerating

The population explosion happened precisely since 2013, from 422,000 to 542,000 at the end of last year. And this is accelerating. Since 2017, except for Covid years, the increase has been of 20,000 a year. The Finance Minister has admitted that the Government has a target of 800,000 population.

We also had a derogation on membership

When we joined the EU, we had a seven-year derogation period when we could even stop EU workers from coming in, something that was not needed as there was no population explosion then and the type of worker who came was working in quality industries set up at the time, like gaming and aviation.

Where you would have been right: the brain drain

One element you didn’t really refer to and in which you might have been right is the brain drain. With wages being kept low with the importation of cheap labour from NON-EU countries, a lot of Maltese bright people in many industries are just leaving. Even worse, 80% of young people want to leave Malta. This of course needs to be addressed.

    1. Are you getting your data from politicians speaking on television?
Data should be taken directly from secretaries working in departments,
the people who actually type in data. That’s where the real data should come from not listening to lying politicians on tv.
What about “quality industries set up at the time, like gaming and aviation”.
What quality? In gambling (sorry gaming). I know people who work in aviation but you are trying to give an impression that maybe Malta builds aircraft or something. We just maintain aircrafts that comes and goes that is all.
Regarding the “NOT obliged to let in NON-EU workers”.
Non-EU citizens / workers coming to Malta are automatically given refugee status.
Non-EU citizens are classed as refugees under the Dublin Regulation which is a European Law.
Yes most of them are imported by the government BUT are still given a “refugee status”.
No not many young people are moving abroad. Not at all. I speak with many young people and yes they would like to move abroad but it is such a big step for them, leaving family, friends, not knowing what to expect and also the fact that the Maltese are comfortable. I mean where can one find doctors in pharmacies, or even getting a doctor to your home, an airport round the corner, grocery stores / ironmongery every 100 meters and so many other things. Absolutely amazing when considering Maltas’ size.
Malta was always amazing. And now it is being destroyed by our politicians. Open your eyes people.

      1. What I quoted are official data.

37,851 were the NON-EU people brought over by the Government of Malta itself and gave them a residency permit in 2022. This results from Eurostat data given to Eurostat by the Maltese Government.

Refugees are very different: they present themselves here, ask for refugee status and are given this status or sent back. According to data provided by the Ministry for Home Affairs via a Freedom of Information Request, on 24 March 2023, to the organisation ‘Asylum in Europe’, during 2022 there were 973 applicants for asylum in Malta, only 187 of which were granted asylum.

Please base your opinions on facts and figures. It’s the only way to get Malta out of the crisis it’s in.

The crisis is the Malta Government’s responsibility, mostly because of the high number of residency permits it’s giving to NON-EU people it brings over to Malta, the very high amount of building permits and the corruption due to which the Government cannot change anything because developers and people-importing companies will the tell the truth about corruption in the Malta Government.

  4. Dear Mr. Mercieca,

I just seen that you edited my reply i wrote to “Blog Reader”.
I understand it needed editing as i wrote it hastily early in the morning.
But i need to make a complain. You have removed the word “Salomone”
and you did not mention my name where instead you wrote “Blog Reader 2”.
Also please change 2003 to 2002 on the 7th paragraph.
And “EU countries were envious of Malta’s successes” should be
EU countries were envious of Malta’s ethnicity and successes” on the 7th paragraph.
On the last paragraph “Malta needs politicians such as Norman Lowell or Emmy Bezzina”
please also add “Salomone”. Also in the heading of this “blog” should “Salomone” be included.

I appreciate it if you please rectify this.

    Regards

    Dr. Joseph

    1. It is people like yourself that Malta is the way it is, decaying slowly but surely.
But I will take back what I just said, only if you can justify intelligently part of your sentence “with this sort of rubbish”.

  5. Wow, easy there savage, i only asked if you can justify what you said and intelligently off course.
So you answered with a 4 word sentence. How clever you are. Amazing.
