The first part in a series of three interviews with Dr. Jean Karl Soler about Covid19

In this interview, Dr. Jean Karl Soler, who is a medical doctor and lecturer, answers the following question:

Are all the confirmed positives cases by the RT PCR test, actually infectious or could there be particles of covid19 which are detected by this test but not actually infectious? What cycle is the RT PCR test that is used in Malta being amplified to? What difference does it make that a high cycle is being used?

  1. The number of cycles i.e. the Ct value is not determined by any authority whatsoever but by a calibration process of the equipment using control negative and control positive samples provided with the kits and based on the recommendations of the manufacturer of the test kits. Each lab has to calibrate its equipment accordingly.
