After Daphne Caruana Galizia was found guilty of a false accusation of adultery, the Chancellor of the local diocese still says Daphne “was right”!

I am carrying what Alessandra Dee Crespo has written. She maintains that Daphne Caruana Galizia has won! Dee Crespo made that statement regarding a libel case that Konrad Mizzi and Lindsay Gambin opened against Daphne Caruana Galizia. Daphne Caruana Galizia wrote that Konrad Mizzi was unfaithful to his wife with Lindsey Gambin. The court found this unfounded. Despite the court’s sentence, Alessandra Dee Crespo insists that what Daphne Caruana Galizia wrote is the truth and persists in stating that Daphne Caruana Galizia was right. I can understand that the Archbishop’s Chancellor is writing on behalf of the Repubblichini. However, Alessandra Dee Crespo is also the Archbishop’s Chancellor on the Marriage Tribunal in Malta.

While adultery is no longer a crime in Malta’s Criminal Law and has no more bearing in civil lawsuits because it was removed by Mintoff in 1973, it is still a sin and an infringement, according to Canon Law. It, therefore, has a bearing on the Church Tribunal on which Dee Crespo is its Chancellor.

I have no problem that Konrad Mizzi is criticised and attacked on matters of corruption and political issues. After all, I, too, have done so. Nevertheless, one has to be careful when writing about extramarital affairs and when these turn out to be unfounded.

What is even worse is the fact that the local diocese’s Chancellor, responsible for the Church’s tribunal whose primary existence is to deal with and judge cases related to marriage annulments, turns her guns on the judiciary and supports the spreading of lies that are a cause for marriage breakdowns! Indeed the Church in Malta has reached rock bottom! It is a great pity for the Church when its lay representatives end up supporting lies about people as though the people who spread such lies were the epitome of righteousness!
