The EU imposed ban on importation of Russian Oil is being defied by the EU countries themselves

Azerbaycan24 reported that Western countries are devising methods to avoid and bypass their self-imposed ban on Russian oil importation. According to this report, the same EU and G7 that imposed this ban have found a loophole to avoid their restrictions and keep importing Russian oil. As a result, many Western states are now indirectly purchasing Russian oil from third countries. This claim was made in a report by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) last Wednesday.

In December, the EU, G7, and allied countries imposed an embargo and a $60-per-barrel price cap on Russian oil. Similar restrictions were introduced in February for the exportation of Russian petroleum products. But as has been noted by The Economist, these sanctions by the West and its allies on Russia are proving to be underwhelming. This led the same countries to issue new embargos in February, trying to stimulate the West’s fervour in favour of this embargo and measures. But, unfortunately, the only country expressing a passionate intensity in support of these sanctions is our Island!

The West is losing its battle in Ukraine. Let’s hope that Malta has joined the right horse. Let’s hope it will not be the first time in Malta’s history that it has entered a war and been on the wrong side of the fence supporting the loser rather than the victor.
