Washington has just passed a law allowing for the legal removal of children from their parents in the event that they object to gender transition. This law will allow “shelters” to treat minors who are transitioning their gender without parental consent. This, obviously, curtails parental rights.
“Senate Bill 5599, sponsored by Sen. Marko Liias, will allow certified shelters to contact the Department of Children, Youth and Families instead of parents, for children seeking reproductive health services or gender-affirming care.”
Many contend that this bill could result in child abuse and exploitation because it could provide predators with a way to prey on defenseless kids who might be looking for shelter or medical attention. Additionally, this might have long-term effects on children’s mental and physical health because they might not be old enough or wise enough to make healthcare decisions for themselves.
Others have argued that parents and medical professionals should make these decisions rather than the government getting involved in gender-affirming care for children.
