Biagio Vella: A friend and a scholar passes away

I have just heard that Biagio Vella passed away. Vella was a colleague of mine at University. He was an eminent Latin scholar, who will be sadly missed by all those who knew him through his career. Many remember him an educator, having been also assistant head at Ħandaq Junior College. For my part, for a number of years, we lived in the same street and used to meet in the road, late in the afternoon. I would be on my way to visit my parents at Paola, while he would be walking down to go to hear Mass at Paola’s parish church. We would stop and have a brief chat. May he rest in peace.
