The non-vaccinated Birkirkara Residents cannot attend a fun run but are urged to buy a t-shirt!

Blog post by Marica Micallef

The Birkirkara Local Council has issued two bilingual statements, encouraging Birkirkara residents to participate in this year’s President’s Fun Run, in aid of the Community Chest Fund, which will be held on the 21st of November. So far, so good!  At the end of the day, it is for a good cause!

And as it has come “the accepted norm” [unfortunately] since the vaccine roll-out, is that only those who possess a vaccine certificate are allowed to participate! The certificate must be presented both on registering and also on the day of the fun run!

However, although the council is not accepting the participation of non-vaccinating individuals, the same council still has the wiċċ vili to ask the non-vaccinated to present themselves at its office to buy a t-shirt!! So, the logic is the “non-vaccinated are not allowed in our offices to register and participate, but they are allowed in our office to buy a t-shirt!

Skuzi mela min mhux vaċċinat huwa taż-żejt u n-nieqes!

Dear council, since you are discriminating against the non-vaccinated, then the non-vaccinated cannot, and should not, turn up to buy t-shirts. If they are a threat to society, they remain a threat if they turn up at the Local Council Office.

Although I do not endorse the “eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth” philosophy, such an attitude is going to back fire on this year’s campaign for charity for obvious reasons.
