Is Malta heading towards price inflation because of Covid19?

Blog post by Marica Micallef

The Malta Chamber of SME has warned that “Malta will be visibly experiencing price inflation” in furniture, tools, clothing, medicine, DIY products, tech products and jewelry. But, the Chamber has also mentioned other items which include FOOD PRODUCTS and appliances.

The Times of Malta has reported that “Importers say their operations have suffered a big blow due to changes in the shipping industry related to the Far East and Turkey, with containers in short supply and importation costs skyrocketing over the past five months” and that as a result, “local importers are being asked to put up ‘substantial sums’ as deposits in order to secure container space”.[1]

Didn’t I write in my blogs that we were going to have a high rise in the cost of living?[2][3] Isn’t all this showing that I precede the local media as to what humanity is truly in for in the near future? What will be the consequences of this high rise in some items? Will people be able to buy them, especially with so many who are either running on minimal capital or others who have lost their employment? Since I have also hinted that we will have a shortage of food supply, can the local media speak the truth about this?

Is the media keeping the water muddy, so it avoids showing its true colour to the people? TOM continues to write that “So far importers have adopted various mitigation measures at business level. Some have tried to hold off on importing, but they are now running low on stocks. Others have tried to absorb the cost as much as possible for their products to remain competitive.” Doesn’t the fact that importers have tried to hold off on importing, show that we are heading towards food supply and shortages of other items?  Doesn’t this also confirm the questions that I made in my previous blogs on food supply? Will our local media confirm this too? Doesn’t this confirm that we are going through an economical crisis? Can the authorities live up to this truth?

Doesn’t this show that all I write in my blogs are becoming true? Does this show that I preceded the media and I am also being prophetic? Am I not warning the Maltese Nation as to what is yet to come? Isn’t it time for my blogs to be taken more seriously by the public? What the media and the government are saying on Covid19 is not all biblical truth.

Mahatma Gandhi had once said “Truth alone will endure; all the rest will be swept away before the tide of time. I must continue to bear testimony to truth even if I am forsaken by all. Mine may today be a voice in the wilderness, but it will be heard when all other voices are silenced if it is the voice of truth”.

I endorse this quote of Gandhi. I will continue to bear testimony to the truth. The truth will guide us towards love of humanity. With truth, we can walk together along the path of freedom.
