Commenting on Alfred Sant’s remark on Pfizer vaccines

On his personal Facebook page, Dr Alfred Sant wrote:

L-aħbar… ma nafx kemm hi vera… li l-fabrikanti tal-Pfizer qed jgħidu li t-tilqima għad trid tittieħed għat-tielet darba… regħet uriet kif fil-ġlieda kontra l-pandemija tal-Covid-19, l-umanità qiegħda taħdem skont ir-regola ta’ kif tipprova ttellaq xi ħaġa ġdida u tkun lest issewwiha jekk ikollha xi ħaġa li mhijiex sejra tajjeb, waqt li tagħmel dan int u tkun għaddej… dak li bl-Ingliż jissejjaħ “trial and error”.

Biss f’dal-qasam, hemm is-saħħa ta’ miljuni u miljuni ta’ bnedmin. Kemm nistgħu nkunu żguri li f’xi ħaġa daqstant importanti, il-metodu ta’ “trial and error” qed jintuża biss skont kriterji xjentifiċi u mediċi, u mhux ukoll skont kriterji kummerċjali, ta’ kif l-aktar tista’ tbigħ malajr u tagħmel fl-istess waqt, l-aħjar profitti?

I was shocked to read that Dr Sant justifies the fact that those who took the Pfizer the shot, will be asked to take the third shot, if not more!  The way things are moving, we can expect anything. Our health authorities are not only being pressured by Pfizer CEO to administer a third Pfizer vaccine within 12 months.[1] but Dr Fearne is making sure that Malta is on the frontline to push for this third dose[2], because, according to him, Malta and EU member states must not be “caught off guard” and so it was crucial to “plan in advance”.I s this why the EU Covid-19 passport certificate is valid for 12 months, so that then its renewal will depend on the third shot of the Pfizer vaccine? Did the local authorities know beforehand about all this?

Dr Sant says that if something is not functioning right, then it seems right to fix it in a “trial and error” way. Trial and error? As we are talking about the health of people here, there should be no room for a trial and error practice! If a giant Pharma Company like Pfizer provides vaccines for nations, then it must be sure that if two doses are administered, then these two are enough, because the findings in their making phase showed so! Doesn’t this prove that these vaccines are still in their experimental phase? How come the reason that Pfizer produced was that their doses won’t generate a sufficient immune response to protect the people from the new Covid-19 variants? Is this a reason or an excuse to generate more money? What will be the long term effects of all those shots being given to people, within a short timeframe? Why weren’t people informed from the start that more shots might be needed? More importantly, what scientific proof do we have that these variants exist? On the other side of the debate, isn’t it natural that viruses mutate? Don’t we practically see that in every flu season people still get sick with the flu, despite the flu vaccine? Did the past flu vaccines target all types of flu viruses and their mutations? Hence, this same debate can be applied to the coronavirus.

Dr Sant always questions if Pfizer is doing so to make more profits. Isn’t this common sense? Neither generosity nor philanthropy are the driving force of Big Pharma Companies. AstraZeneca has already made rollout nets of 227 million euros in sales from Covid vaccine in three months while Pfizer and BioNTech stand to bring in nearly 13 billion dollars in global sales from their vaccines next year.

Is this truly about health or about millions and billions?

Who will make up for all the amounts paid for the vaccines’ purchase? Will they be repaid by the people via higher taxes and a higher cost of living?
