More anomalies in Melvin Theuma’s testimony
Last week, we read that Vince Muscat, known as il-Koħħu, stated in court that Alfred Degiorgio, known as il-Fulu, was obtaining information concerning the police investigations into Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder from the then Deputy Commissioner of Police Silvio Valletta, through the former minister Chris Cardona, who in turn contacted “a high-profile lawyer’. It was this lawyer who asked Valletta for this information.
Therefore, what is being stated here is that the information that Silvio Valletta was disclosing regarding the police investigation was, to use a court expression, “detto del detto”. I am not going to discuss whether this is true or not. I will leave this to the courts. What I can state is that, meanwhile Silvio Valletta has issued a statement that this is not true. I am not interested in this either. The purpose for this blog is another.
The allegations that Silvio Valletta was disclosing police progress in Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder investigation was also testified in court by Melvin Theuma in the compilation of evidence against Yorgen Fenech. However, Melvin Theuma’s account differs completely from that of Vince Muscat. According to Melvin Theuma, Valletta used to pass the information to Yorgen Fenech and then Yorgen Fenech passed on the information to him, Melvin Theuma. Melvin Theuma even has recordings where Valletta is being referred to as l-Oħxon or the Fatty.
Therefore, according to Melvin Theuma, this information was being obtained from Yorgen Fenech, who indirectly, was getting it from the Deputy Police Commissioner Valletta. The question that needs to be asked here who is telling the truth? And are Melvin Theuma’s recordings credible?
It is unlikely that both witnesses are telling the truth. What can be said is that Yorgen Fenech does not seem to have ever met Vince Muscat, il-Koħħu nor had any meetings with the Degiorgio brothers. However, as middleman, Melvin Theuma, knew all of them!
It is quite inconceivable that the Deputy Police Commissioner Valletta was passing on information to every Tom, Dick and Harry. It was also alleged that he was passing information to Keith Schembri and Joseph Muscat during regular meetings he had with them.
Is it possible that Valletta was passing information to both this high-profile lawyer and Yorgen Fenech? If this is not the case, then who is saying the truth?
