EXCLUSIVE: Members of the Caruana Galizia are asking Julian Hofstra to help them

I am in a position to reveal that a female member of the Caruana Galizia family wrote an email to a family friend of Julian Hofstra asking for information about Julian. The first attempt was made by a female member of the Caruana Galizia. She got into contact with this person in Holland through a Dutch journalist. This is what this member of the Caruana Galizia family wrote:

My interest in Hofstra is because he has been linked to Yorgen Fenech, who stands accused of masterminding Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder. Hofstra seems to have other connections that may be relevant…

If you have further information about Hofstra and his connections in Malta, I would be very grateful if you would share that information with me.

When the member of the Caruana Galizia came to know that this person was very close to Hofstra’s family, she asked this person to intervene so that Julian would assist the Caruana Galizia family in their investigation into Daphne’s assassination. 

This request for help is extremely disturbing to say the least. It was sent after The Times of Malta, published an article, on Saturday 23 January 2021, in which it was revealed that lawyer Charles Mercieca was questioned about Hofstra at Police Headquarters.

In its reportage, The Times described Hofstra as a fraudster. This was done on purpose to discredit Hofstra with the general public. But what should be asked is the following? Why should this family member be so interested to communicate with, and eventually appeal to a fraudster for help when The Times is attempting to build an image that Hofstra is to be considered an unrealiable witness?  

Then, Lovin Malta published its first article about Hofstra. It was eventually picked up by Malta Today. In its first article, Lovin Malta states that the Police are investigating Julian Hofstra regarding alleged work he carried out for Silvio Zammit in 2016. Silvio Zammit was politically very close to John Dalli when the latter was EU Commissioner between 2010 and 2012.

But from where did the police get this information about Hofstra and the allegedly working relationship with Silvio Zammit? Lovin Malta does not give any news about this important point. Instead, it goes  straight to the relationship between Hofstra and Zammit. Again this story is picked by Malta Today. As always, the media seeks to remind the reader of Hofstra’s criminal record.

Yet all the media that is writing about this story are failing to mention a very important detail: Silvio Zammit’s lawyer happens to be also Keith Schembri’s. Meanwhile, Keith Schembri’s name is continuously being mentioned in connection with the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and, so far, the police have failed to recover his mobile.

Why should the police investigate Hofstra about the Snus case when this case dates back to 2012? When the Snus case took place, Hofstra was not in Malta. He was just a 12-year-old lad.

Furthermore, when Hofstra allegedly helped Silvio Zammit in 2016, he was then still a 16-year-old lad. What, however, is even more shocking is that there was reference in the media to Hofstra’s criminal record. From where was such a record  obtained if not from the Police? There are still individuals in Malta who believe that the Police are acting in good faith in the investigation of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination!

On the other hand, once the police received the information, that there could be a presumed connection between Hofstra, Dalli and Schembri, the police passed on this information to a lawyer, who is very close to the Caruana Galizia family and this lawyer passed on this information to the media for it to be fed to general public. The way how the media is recounting this story, is in my view  quite intimidating and its only aim is to send a message to Julian Hofstra. Either he collaborates with the Caruana Galizia family or the police will seek to destroy him.

In fact, the question that should be asked is why the Caruana Galizia are so interested in Julian Hofstra, when a lawyer – very close to the  Caruana Galizia family – appears to be in collusion with the Police to intimidate Hofstra because of what he allegedly knows about the Daphne Caruana Galizia’s case and Keith Schembri?

Yet, this saga did not end here. Both Lovin Malta and Malta Today published articles to inform their readers that the police had issued or are going to issue a warrant of arrest against Hofstra. As these articles wee being published, a new attempt was made by an intermediary for Hofstra to start collaborating with one of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s sons. It is not a mere coincidence that, as these articles are being published in the media, intermediaries are putting more pressure on Hofstra to get into contact with the Caruana Galizia family. The message is clear. Either Hofstra collaborates with the Caruana Galizia or else the police uses its power to start criminal proceedings against him.
