Bernard Grech did not take heed of the appeal of the Commissioner for Standards in Public Life

The Leader of the Opposition ignores the appeal of the Commissioner for Standards in Public Life. The Commissioner, Dr. George Hyzler, has specifically “proposed that MPs who work in the public sector should not serve as opposition spokespersons for the sectors within which they work since this would place them in a conflict of interest“. Kristy Debono was once again appointed spokesperson for the Economy, Financial Sector and Gaming. It should be pointed out that Debono works with the Gaming Authority. It is true that George Hyzler only proposed and did not impose any regulation – which he cannot. But still, if Bernard Grech believes in good governance, he should have taken the cue from the Commissioner’s message and made it his own.
